There are two types of fear; rational fear and irrational fear. What you are discussing is irrational fear. Irrational fear is the kind of fear that is not real but imagined by the brain because you it is rooted in your childhood insecurities. E.g fear of speaking to girls can be irrational fear.

But rational fear is real fear. Because it is true that you can be injured. For example, the fear of being attacked by lion is in a forest is real. This kind of fear requires you to have understanding and awareness of what you are dealing with.

For example, fearing harmless snake is irrational fear. But fearing dangerous and poisonous snake is rational.

In conquering fear, the best approach is first to differentiate the kind of fear you are dealing with. If it is irrational fear them exposure therapy will work. If it is rational fear then knowledge and understanding is the only way you will work with this kind of fear.
